  2. Incredible! Very, very well done! ESPECIALLY the final slide....where did those caring town officials go???? What happened to their sensibility?

Don't they understand? WE CAN DO BETTER! And our townpeople deserve better.

  3. This is incredible. Last slide says it all - stick to the plan. Vote No to re-zone and let's do better. Can this be shown at Town Meeting?

  5. Incredible job, wonderful video. It sums up all the reasons we moved to Lakeville. Our small little town will forever change.

  6. Town has blocked video and power point presentation from showing inside Town meeting so we are working on other options.....

  7. At 1:30pm U8 in town soccer
games Sysco was there handing out flyers and giving out free snacks. This
got me mad because they are trying to raise funds by selling snacks
at the field! THANKS LARRY SIMPSON !!!!!!!!!

  8. This video is very biased, and did NOT give any other viable options for what could go in place of Sysco. The trucks going in and out of the facility will be nowhere near 99.9% of the town. That other .1% is already located right off of route 495. This will increase the traffic slightly, but not get in the way of bus routes etc. Overall this will not have a major impact on town life, like showcased in this video. It will increase revenue and help local business. VOTE YES FOR SYSCO!

  9. The best use for the property is found in the Lakeville Master Plan, mixed use.....also the Lakeville Affordable Housing Plan, affordable, rental, appartments for Seniors.....and the Draft Open Space Plan, "green" space around the protected wetlands.....the back 25-30 acres have low development value due to the wetlands and high water table....use it for a park. The middle area can be a small hotel/motel complex with a small coffee shop, lunch counter and cheap Mom Pop dinner. Also could have a Medical Proffessional Building to support the Seniors. The front area is the key retail area for things like a small food store, wine and cheese shop, fitness center or heart rehah. center or out patient cancer treatment center....a Band Stand for outdoor concerts or Arts and Craft show...outdoor movie nights in the summer....these things make it an attaction to Town....not an Industrial Part 2.....we can do better....Vote No 10-18-2010

  10. The Selectman of Lakeville should be ashamed of them selves. Only 1 year ago they make a statement in the Annual Report: "To the residents; you have chosen to live here because it is indeed a wonderful place. Our natural resources are amoung the most beautiful in the entire state, and that's because of your continued dedication in choosing to protect them, and for this, we give our heartfelt thanks!

I say it is now the turn of our Board of Selectman to change their minds and vote "NO" to the re-zone, and dedicate yourselves to developing a combination of commercial and residential growth that protects Lakeville's natural resources!

  11. To the person that said the video is biased, I respect your opinion, however there is a section at the end called Alternatives. Perhaps you didn't make it that far into the video, but it's there. Maybe you don't agree with those alternatives, and again you have a right to your opinion.

  12. I have several comments about this video (which was very well produced, btw.)
It's very nice that Wallace Wilke thought about putting his farm into a trust so that it cannot be developed. However, he was one person, and didn't speak for the whole town. The fact that he wouldn't like this means nothing.
The Lakeville hospital property is private property. It has been closed and abandoned for 18 years, and is an eyesore that is costing us money in the form of police services for vandalism and trespassing. Voters don't have to agree to have it rezoned, and Sysco won't be able to move in, true. But voters do not have the right to say what does go in there, if a proposed use is allowed by right under any of the existing zones on the property. You can dream of a medical building for seniors or a cheap Mom and Pop diner, the same as I can dream of nicer neighbors than I've got, but unless you own the property, you have little more than dreams.
The video notes that the selectmen negotiated a TIF. Yes, they did - and then town meeting voters chose 3 to 1 to approve that deal. Putting blame for something you don't like on the shoulders of just the selectmen is a little narrow.
How many trucks are there going to be - 150? 230? 400? And to say that "we were all for" the Target, Stop and Shop, and Chili's restaurant is rewriting history. There are newspaper reports and selectmen's minutes to indicate otherwise.

I'm probably voting against the overlay, because I do think the existing zoning for business or commercial on Main Street is a better use of that property, but I'm tempted to vote yes just because of this type of drivel.

  13. The voters negotiated a TIF with absolutely no concrete construction plans whatever. All we were told was that we had to agree to the TIF to see what Sysco would build. This has been kept vague and urgent by Sysco and the BOS from the beginning so the town is kept in the dark until it's too late to make any changes.

If you read the actual contracts, there are plenty of loopholes and weasel-words to help Sysco ignore the rosy verbal promises they made to the town during this process. A "NO" vote tomorrow allows us to ensure we don't get swindled by legal acrobatics down the road.

And seriously? Voting yes out of spite for your neighbors? We keep fighting against this because it means everything to us, not because of some vendetta towards Lakeville residents.

  14. If this rezoning is approved, good luck uniting the Town on the future BIG issues, like how to pay for that Giant water tower, if we can't find 80 acres for Sysco away from residents, where are we going to put all that business in the future?????

  15. @ the person who talked about Wilke being one viewpoint.

Agreed. That was one man's view. However, I think you will find that many people in town support that view. I know my family moved here because of the type of place Lakeville is. To see it go from a quaint, rural town to an industrial town this quickly would be disappointing.

I think everyone involved realizes that the property needs to be developed. Allowing it to sit vacant with a deteriorating building is not what any of us wants for the future. What a lot of people do want is a plan that makes sense for the town and works within the by-laws established by the town. The Sysco project is not adhering to those by-laws.

This is not a last chance. That's a very important point. That property will increase value over the next few years. There's a reason Sysco has been so anxious to move their operations there. It's a prime property with great highway access. Lakeville already has a low tax rate without a TIF. There is a lot going for it. To say this is the one and only opportunity Lakeville will ever have with that property is quite exaggerated.

I don't put the blame solely on the shoulders of the selectmen. However, I do feel they need to do their due diligence to make sure people have all of the facts when it comes to big issues like this. There are a lot of smart, savvy citizens in Lakeville who are capable of checking the facts, doing their own research to avoid having things pulled over on them. I think we would all prefer to have the information from the start and to work with town officials on making the decisions that are right for Lakeville.

Even with ideal communication between town officials and the citizens, we'll rarely have 100% consensus on these issues that face the town. That's just the way it goes. We all have different worldviews and agendas. Democracy allows us to vote the way we feel is right. This re-zoning vote is one of the biggest articles town meeting has ever faced. The average town meeting probably is in the low to mid hundreds. This one will draw 1,000 to 2,000 people. It has the potential to divide the town.

My only hope is that everyone who walks into the high school tomorrow night to vote does so with great confidence that they have weighed all of the facts, listened intently to both sides, and can honestly say that they have great conviction in why they are saying yes or no.

  16. The Last comment posted is written by the type of person who will help move our Town forward. Remember at future build out there will 5,000 more people who call Lakeville home so let's get the Plans and zoning fixed NOW......not after the BAD things happen that can't be reversed........we can do better.....

  17. Thank God we have people in this town that voted NO for Sysco. They sure did their home work. The very touching moment at the town meeting was when the old man said he went to the enviorment protection agency and asked about diesel fuel. They told him that diesel fuel was hazardous to unborn and babies. Also Mr. Jenkins sold me on his report of this whole Sysco idea. I am so glad that this did not pass. Just picture about 200-300 diesel tractor trailers running 24 hrs a day for 6 days a week. Just imagine the fumes of diesel fuel in the area and the noise that this would of created. I am very disapointed in my town officials for even the thought of having something like this to take over our beautiful town. Again Thank You All that grouped together and all that voted NO
